DOVER, N.H. — A woman here who claims to be a witch is on trial after allegedly threatening to judges and an attorney as part of a dispute with a local credit union.
Janet Delfuoco is on trial in Strafford County Superior Court for Facebook posts made in February of 2017 that were seen by an employee of Granite State Credit Union.
Assistant Attorney General Erin Fitzgerald told a jury Delfuoco was upset because she wanted a home equity loan from the credit union removed from her property, according to the Union Leader. When Judge David Anderson at Rockingham County Superior Court refused to hear her “predatory lending” claims, Fitzgerald said Delfuoco lashed out knowing her message would be seen by others, the report added.
In her Facebook post, Delfuoco allegedly targeted Anderson, Judge Mark Weaver and attorney Clifford Gallant. Gallant represented Granite State Credit Union and said he was concerned when he saw what Delfuoco posted online, the Union Leader reported.
‘Capable of Killing You Off’
According to the charges, Delfuoco wrote, in part, “I will give you the shirt off my back and heal your diseases, but I am also just as capable as killing you off. Don’t ever cross me with corruption and greed.”
“The judges and that (expletive) attorney are next, so, so next,” Delfuoco had written just before that, the report states.
Delfuoco, who is representing herself because she was denied a public defender, pushed Gallant during cross-examination to admit that he did not seek a restraining order for himself or any other person in his law firm, the Union Leader stated.
Delfuoco further said she meant her words as hyperbole not threats, and that she is a witch, one that believes in karma not physical aggression.
“I was just being vocal. It was never actually a true threat,” Delfuoco said.
Delfuoco is charged with four Class B felonies and a misdemeanor, which could land her years behind bars for years if found guilty, according to the Union Leader.
