NEW YORK—More major card issuers are targeting grocery store spend as they increase cash-back offers.
New Chase Freedom Unlimited cardholders can earn a whopping 5% cash back on grocery store purchases—not including Target or Walmart—in the first year they have the card, up to a maximum of $12,000 in spending, CNN reported.
Also, new Chase Freedom Unlimited cardholders can earn $200 in bonus cash back after spending $500 on purchases in the first three months after they open the account.
The push to offer rewards around grocery spend comes as many cards’ rewards programs tied to travel have less appeal due to the pandemic and lockdowns.
