With National Elections Now Less Than a Year Away, Redesigned Credit Unions Vote Website is Unveiled

WASHINGTON–With the national elections now less than a year away, CUNA has relaunched its CreditUnionsVote.com site.

The site is designed to get credit union members registered and ready to vote and provides resources and information voters need to engage in the elections, according to the association.

“We think this is the earliest cycle that we've ever launched this initiative, but we think it's the right time to do it,” said Trey Hawkins, deputy chief advocacy officer with CUNA. “At its core it's our nonpartisan voter information and action center. We believe that as member owned not-for-profit financial cooperative credit unions have vested interest in democracy and civic engagement, so this campaign initiative is part of our role to provide credit unions will tools to help their members educate themself exercise their right to vote.”

Hawkins noted the redesigned site has two components, including a simplified user interface members can use to plug in their name and address and check their voter registration and polling place.

Getting Registered

Those who are not registered are provided information on how to get registered.

As Election Day gets closer, Hawkins said members will be able to review sample ballots. Members can also opt-in to receive reminders to vote cast a ballot early.

Hawkins said there are more than 10,000 voting entities in the United States and “we're plunged into almost every one of them, and that's what's so powerful about it.”

The Second Component

The second component of the site, according to Hawkins, is built on CUNA’s member acquisition program (MAP), which includes a toolkit for credit unions that includes sample language, social media graphics and other plug-and-play resources that CUs can use to push out their brand to their members and as a “free resource for their members to engage in the civic and democratic process…and to make sure that their members are educating themselves and exercising their right to vote.”
Hawkins said there will be significant promotion by CUNA related to the site, especially as the primary season and presidential primaries heat up after the first of the year.”
