WASHINGTON–Both the House and Senate are back in session this week, although there are no hearings or pieces of legislation that specifically apply to credit unions on the agenda.
There is a hearing in the House Financial Services Committee Subcommittee on Financial Institutions and Consumer Credit scheduled for Wednesday that will discuss ways to improve transparency and accountability at the CFPB that both CUNA and NAFCU said they will be monitoring.
CUNA’s Ryan Donovan said that among the legislation the trade group will also be paying attention to this week is HR 59895, the Energy and Water Development and Related Appropriations Act, which is also something of a mini-appropriations bill.
The Senate this week will continue to consider judicial nominations as well as the National Defense Authorization Act.
Also in Washington this week:
- NAFCU said comments are due to it on two of the CFPB's requests for information: adopted regulations and new rulemaking authorities (comments due Tuesday), and inherited regulations (comments due Friday).
- Five webinars are being offered by NAFCU and NAFCU Services Preferred Partners on funds availability, repossessions and remarketing processes, debt collection, Artificial Intelligence, and financial planning and investment services.
- CUNAs Richard Gose said the association is also gathering responses from credit unions in order to respond to several Requests for Information from the BCFP. The trade group will continue to work to “show the BCFP how exemptions for credit unions benefit consumers and why it is a good practice.”
