With Congress Set to Return to Session, CUs Hold Meetings With Reps, Senators in Home States

WASHINGTON—With Congress set to return to its Fall session, state leagues and individual credit unions have been meeting with policymakers in their home states and districts as the summer recess winds down, according to America’s Credit Unions.

During the last week CU representatives have met with elected officials and candidates in South Carolina, North Dakota, Delaware and New Jersey, according to the association.

Who Met With Whom

Among the meetings that have taken place:

  • The Carolinas Credit Union League (CCUL) met with Rep. William Timmons (R-SC) in a joint meeting that also included a candidate for South Carolina State Senate, Jason Elliott. America’s Credit Unions and the CCUL supported Timmons with a targeted advertisement campaign and he won a primary in June.
  • Dakota Credit Union Association President/CEO Jeff Olson and Director of Legislative and Regulatory Affairs John Alexander met with Sen. Kevin Cramer’s (R-ND) staff members. Credit union and league leaders also met with Julie Fedorchak, the Republican nominee for the North Dakota U.S. House seat.
  • The Cooperative Credit Union Association and America’s Credit Unions hosted Democratic candidate Sarah McBride— who is running for the at-large congressional seat in Delaware — at Priority Plus Credit Union.
  • The CrossState Credit Union Association hosted Rep. Andy Kim (D-NJ) at its Hamilton, N.J., office. Kim is running for the U.S. Senate seat left vacant by the resignation of Sen. Bob Menendez (D-NJ).
