PLANO, Texas—Thanks to listing only his work number on his entry, Andrew Wilson had to wait 12 hours to discover he was the winner of a brand new, red, 2016 Ford Mustang that was given away by the Cornerstone Credit Union Foundation.
Wilson won the car as part of the “Mustang Mania” raffle the Foundation staged as a fundraiser.
On the night of the drawing, he was at home hoping to hear from the Foundation at 9 p.m. His winning ticket, however, only had his work phone number, the Foundation reported. When he was reached at his office the following morning with the news he was the winner, he was understandably shocked and overjoyed, the Foundation said.
Wilson opted to take the cash value over the vehicle.
“My experience winning the Mustang Mania grand prize couldn’t have been a more positive one," said Wilson. "I had high hopes of being the winner when I entered the raffle at the Southwest Lending Conference in Oklahoma City in May. But I really always participate in these types of fundraisers because I am a true believer in the mission and vision of industry resources such as the Cornerstone League and Foundation.
"When I received the phone call advising me I was the winner, I about fell out of my chair. Flying up to Dallas to pick up the prize was quite an adventure. The Foundation team truly made me feel like a king for a day. We took pictures, had lunch, and talked shop.”
All net proceeds raised from the tickets go back to the staff, credit unions, and chapters of the Cornerstone CU League region to carry out the Foundation’s three primary initiatives: financial education programs for youth and adults, professional development for credit union staff and volunteers, and disaster relief for credit union staff when disaster strikes.
