ALEXANDRIA, Va.–In the two weeks since the White House tweeted a video of NCUA Chairman Rodney Hood extolling the Trump administration and how it has helped African-Americans in the country, the tweet has drawn a range of response ranging from criticism to support.
Hood is not identified in the video that was distributed on Twitter under the White House’s official account. Hood, who is African-American, also does not mention NCUA or credit unions in the 38-second video. Hood was appointed by Trump as NCUA chairman earlier this year.
As CUToday.info reported here, Hood says in the video, “Under the Trump administration, America’s unemployment rate has never been better. For the first time in our history, we now have more people in the working economy than ever before, especially as it relates to African-Americans throughout society. I’m particularly pleased this president has done more for African-Americans than for any other president in my lifetime. This is evident by unemployment being at an all-time low of well under 6%, but in addition to that, the fact that more African-American families now are seeing an increase in a lot of their net worth.”
The tweet has been retweeted more than 7,500 times and has more than 17,000 likes.

- Body and audio language suggests that this statement was made under duress and that he just doesn't buy the words coming out of his own mouth. Did he have to say this in order to keep his job? I have no doubt he did.
- I respect Mr. Hood's testimony about his own experience but am reluctant to generalize it to all African Americans.
- Yay Rodney - Please keep on telling it like it is!! Thank you sir!!
- Hood needs to study the Democratic Presidents if he's looking for the real advocates for African Americans. Evidently his education is incomplete.
