What Was It Thinking During Crisis? FDIC Podcast Offers Insights

WASHINGTON–What was the FDIC thinking and what was going on behind the scenes during the banking crisis of a decade ago?

The FDIC has released a series of podcasts featuring discussions about Crisis and Response: An FDIC History, 2008–2013, that it says offers some insights.

According to the agency, the podcast series gives listeners a unique hind-the-scenes perspective on the crisis, as FDIC officials share their insights into the agency’s decision-making strategies and actions.

“The podcasts will allow us to reach an even larger audience, from policymakers and industry representatives to academics and other regulators,” said Chairman Jelena McWilliams. “We hope that the podcasts encourage thoughtful discussion about the policy measures undertaken during and after the crisis, and that this dialogue will help us better understand the factors that contributed to the crisis and the steps needed to prevent a recurrence.”

Seven Episodes

The podcast series is organized into seven episodes: an introductory episode that highlights the study’s overview and one episode for each of the study’s six chapters.

The podcasts and The Crisis and Response study are available on the FDIC’s website at https://www.fdic.gov/bank/historical/crisis/index.html.  Copies of the study can be ordered from the FDIC Online Catalog.
