WASHINGTON–Federal Reserve Chairman Janet Yellen will make two public speaking appearances this week that will be closely watched, beginning this afternoon at the Economic Club of Washington.
On Thursday Yellen will testify before the Joint Economic Committee in Congress. The public appearances are expected to be the last by Yellen prior to the meeting of the Fed’s policymaking committee on Dec. 15 and 16, where once again many are predicting the Federal Reserve will start to nudge up its benchmark interest rate. Rates have been close to zero since late 2008.
