Wescom To Mark 200,000 Members With 200 Acts of Kindness

PASADENA, Calif.–To mark hitting the 200,000-member threshold, Wescom Credit Union said it plans perform more than 200 acts of kindness throughout its Southern California territory by year's end.

Under the umbrella of its core #WescomKindness program, Wescom said its branches and executive management team will have the opportunity to spread kindness through acts that they feel are most impactful to their respective communities including donations, support of local non-profits, or “surprising and delighting local residents with various giveaways and promotions through the end of August 2021.”

“We are honored to count more than 200,000 Southern Californians as members of Wescom and this is our way of showing appreciation and giving back to the community,” said Melissa Pederson, SVP-administration. “For more than 85 years, Wescom has been dedicated to helping Southern Californians build better financial futures. As we’ve grown, we’ve never lost sight of the fact that it all goes back to our members. We were formed by our members, we’re owned by our members, and we’re committed to serving our members and the communities in which they live.”

What’s Planned

Wescom said the 200 Acts of Kindness pledge encompasses the following:

  • Branch Kindness:  “All 24 Wescom Credit Union branches will have the opportunity to spread kindness throughout their communities in Los Angeles, Orange, Riverside, San Bernardino, Imperial, San Diego, Santa Barbara, and Ventura counties. Acts of kindness may be big or small and may include support of local fire/police stations or non-profit organizations, donations to food pantries, and other acts of goodwill.”
  • Management Team Kindness: “All 108 members of the Wescom management team will be able to demonstrate two acts of kindness in their own communities, which may include picking up the tab for someone’s groceries, food or coffee order, or some other way to surprise and delight people across the region.”
  • Social Media Kindness. “On Instagram, Wescom will host surprise coffee and gift card giveaways.”

Long Tradition

Wescom said it has a long tradition of showing #WescomKindness to residents of its community. Past events have included food and beverage giveaways at The Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf locations on the Sunday morning that Daylight Saving Time begins, and surprising local families with free Christmas trees around the holidays.

In addition, the credit union said its 2020 #WescomKindness efforts focused heavily on supporting those impacted by COVID-19 by donating meals to healthcare workers, providing needed funds to Southern California area food banks, supporting teachers, students and their families through tutoring scholarships, and funding school supplies to address educational and financial challenges presented by distance learning.

“Our #WescomKindness program has been so rewarding to build a strong community presence for Wescom and touch residents’ lives in a meaningful way. We’re excited to not only continue it but grow it in 2021 as Wescom continues to grow,” added Pederson.
