Wells Fargo Hit With Another Discrimination Claim

SAN FRANCISCO—Wells Fargo has been hit with another claim of discrimination, this time by a U.S. immigrant who was denied an auto loan and who is alleging the troubled bank is withholding credit from migrants who live and work legally in the United States under the DACA program.

In a lawsuit filed in San Francisco federal court, lawyers for the would-be borrower said Wells Fargo is illegally denying auto loans to non-U.S. citizens who would otherwise qualify for loans and that it also failed to provide him with an accurate written explanation for the denial, as the law requires, the San Francisco Chronicle reported.

The suit seeks class-action status on behalf of all bank customers in DACA, the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program, who applied for auto loans, the San Francisco Chronicle said.

The suit was filed as Wells Fargo works to navigate and recover from a series of scandals, the largest of which involved the opening of more than three-million bogus accounts as employees attempted to meet aggressive cross-sales targets. Wells Fargo has paid nearly $1 billion in fines and it continues to operate under a rare  asset cap imposed by the Federal Reserve until it shows it has changed its behavior.
