Webinar On Blockchain Technology Is Set

WASHINGTON—CUNA Chief Operating Officer Rich Meade will headline a free member webinar July 28 on blockchain technology and the CU Ledger initiative.

As CUToday.info previously reported, Meade presented at this year’s America’s Credit Union Conference on blockchain, which he said could be a “game changer” for credit unions.

CUNA, the Mountain West Credit Union Association and other stakeholders are developing the CU Ledger initiative, a concept to create a distributed ledger network for credit unions.

“This solution is coming, this is the next generation of technology,” Meade said at ACUC. “I think we want to own this and do it our own way rather than fall behind or chase behind somebody else.”

Blockchain is a shared ledger technology, which creates an online system through which two parties can securely exchange information with those exchanges certified by all the organizations--called nodes--participating in the network using the technology, CUNA explained.

Registration is currently open for the webinar, which is scheduled for 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. ET. Also presenting is John Best, CEO of Best Innovation Group.
