TULSA, Okla.–WeStreet Credit Union has entered into a naming rights deal with the Tulsa Oilers, who will now play in the WeStreet Ice Center.
The Oilers are the oldest professional sports team in Oklahoma and are the ECHL affiliate of the NHL's Anaheim Ducks and AHL's San Diego Gulls.
The ice center is currently under construction at Promenade Mall in the former Macy’s department store location, and is scheduled to open to the public in late 2023.
The two-story, state-of-the-art ice center will serve as the practice facility and offices for the Tulsa Oilers ice hockey team and will be open to the public for skating and youth sporting tournaments and exhibitions, according to the credit union.
A ’Hub’ for Youth
“We’re thrilled to support the Tulsa Oilers through the sponsorship of the new ice center,” said President/CEO Greg Gallant. “While it will be an excellent practice facility for our beloved local ice hockey team, the ice center will also serve as a hub for youth sports, community events, national tournaments, and will be a driver of economic development for our city. This is just the beginning of a fruitful partnership with the Tulsa Oilers, one that reflects WeStreet’s community-first mindset and dedication to enriching the lives of our neighbors.”
According to WeStreet, the new ice center will provide opportunities previously unavailable at this scale in Tulsa, including figure skating, youth ice hockey, broomball, curling and other sports. The size and scope of the facility will create a significant economic impact, as it will encourage visitors from out-of-state to travel to Tulsa for tournaments, events and exhibitions.
500,000 People Expected
The Tulsa Oilers project an annual attendance of over 500,000 people, WeStreet added.
The 140,000 square-foot facility will include an in-house pro shop, concessions, a full-service bar and restaurant, virtual gaming, meeting areas for events and celebrations, and a WeStreet Credit Union ATM.
Terms of the deal were not released.
