WASHINGTON–The Capital Area Credit Unions for Kids Waiting Area has officially been dedicated at the Emergency Department of Children’s National Hospital here.
The naming recognizes the credit unions’ more than 20 years of philanthropic support for the hospital and their commitment to raising another $3 million.
Local area credit union employees and members have raised more than $5 million to date for Children’s National through the Credit Union Cherry Blossom 10 Mile Run & 5K Run-Walk, golf tournaments and other events.
As credit unions, we are known for our collaborative spirit and our commitment to the communities we serve,” said John Bratsakis, president and CEO of the MD|DC Credit Union Association. “Working with Children’s National Hospital, the contributions made by credit unions and our business partners help connect young patients and their families with the best medical care and support when they need it.”
In 2020, Children’s National will celebrate 150 years of caring for children. The hospital opened in downtown Washington, D.C., with 12 beds to care for Civil War orphans. Today, it is one of the country’s top-six pediatric hospitals and treats patients from around the world. Last year, its Emergency Department had nearly 120,000 visits, the MDDCCUA reported.
