‘WOCCU Fellowship’ Introduced With Goal of Promoting Women, Emerging Leaders

MADISON, Wis.—The World Council of Credit Unions said it is seeking applicants for what it is calling “observers” for its board.

The organization has introduced the “WOCCU Fellowship,” a new initiative it said is designed to promote women and emerging leaders in governance from the Global Women’s Leadership Network (GWLN) and the World’s Young Credit Union Professionals (WYCUP) programs.

“Expanding representation of women and emerging leaders in the governance of credit unions and financial cooperatives is both a shared goal and an ongoing challenge for our global movement,” WOCCU stated. “The WOCCU board of directors has embraced this effort through the designation of two WOCCU observer seats, one for each of these key demographics to join the board.”

According to WOCCU, applicants must apply online by May 15, and include a resume, along with a video and essays that demonstrate their governance and leadership experience, highlight local initiatives that promote women and emerging leaders in governance, and identify strategies to address demographic gaps in governance.

Additional Requirements

Additional requirements are that candidates must be employees, current board directors or members of other elected governance systems either within a direct member of the World Council of Credit Unions or a financial cooperative institution that is affiliated with that direct member.
“Candidates will have demonstrated a leadership contribution to their community, organization, and credit union system,” WOCCU said.

Previous GWLN and WYCUP scholarship applicants and recipients are welcome to apply for this WOCCU Fellowship, WOCCU added.
