MADISON, Wis. — World Council of Credit Unions said it has signed two “high-caliber” speakers for its 2016 World Credit Union Conference in Belfast, Northern Ireland, which is set for July 17-20.
More than 1,800 credit union executives and volunteers from over 40 countries are expected to attend the conference, which will focus on emerging trends, technology and corporate leadership.
The keynote speakers include:
- Ian Goldin, director of the Oxford Martin School and professor of globalization and development at the University of Oxford. His previous positions include World Bank vice president and advisor to President Mandela of South Africa. He has authored 20 books, the most recent of which are Age of Discovery: Navigating the Risks and Rewards of Our New Renaissance and The Pursuit of Development. Drawing on his wide ranging experience in government, the private sector and academia, Professor Goldin will outline economic, demographic and technological megatrends that will impact credit unions' future. He identifies opportunities and systemic risks that arise from rapid change, and provides perspectives to help firms and individuals build resilience and succeed.
- Theresa Payton, the first female to serve as White House chief information officer, oversaw IT operations for the president and his staff from 2006 to 2008. Previously, she held executive roles in banking technology at Bank of America and Wells Fargo, facilitating her broad knowledge of cybersecurity risks and measures in the financial services industry. Currently, as the founder, president and CEO of leading security, risk and fraud consulting company, Fortalice Solutions, LLC, she remains an expert in helping organizations understand and improve their IT systems.
Also at the meeting, bonus networking and educational sessions will include:
- Global Women's Leadership Forum, the annual networking and educational gathering of the Global Women's Leadership Network, the world's only peer-to-peer credit union women's leadership organization. The Network will meet July 17, just prior to the conference.
- World Council Young Credit Union People (WYCUP) program, the annual educational and networking event for credit union professionals age 35 and younger. Five scholarship applicants will receive all-expense-paid scholarships to the 2017 World Credit Union Conference in Vienna, Austria. The WYCUP program begins July 17 and runs concurrently with the conference.
- Worldwide Foundation for Credit Unions Golf Tournament, a fundraising and networking event at a championship golf course in Belfast on July 16.
- Executive Series, an interactive session featuring two breakfasts and a lunch with exclusive insights and expert advice from today's top business authors.
