CLATSKANIE, Ore.–Wauna Credit Union has implemented a “Hazard Pay for Heroes” program that pays employees a premium for coming to the office.
Like many states, Oregon has instituted a stay-at-home order, with Gov. Kate Brown and the state using the theme “Stay Home, Save Lives.” Credit unions are among the businesses in Oregon that have been identified as “essential” and while approximately half of Wauna CU’s employees are now working from home, some are unable to do so.
For those who must report to work, the credit union is paying them an additional $3 per hour.
“We moved employees who had to report to work to other locations so they can effectively social distance,” said WCU Chief Human Resources Officer Sharon Borgardt. “Our IT department did some heroic work to make this happen in a matter of days.”
‘Deeply Appreciative’
“The Heroes’ program is a priority for us,” added CEO Robert Blumberg. “We have employees going out each and every day so that critical financial services for our members and our communities continue without disruption. Wauna Credit Union is deeply appreciative of all our employees for continuing to serve the needs of our members, and our team never ceases to amaze us as they adjust to this new way of working.”
The $257-million Wauna Credit Union is encouraging its 27,000 members to reach out to it if assistance is needed, as it offers options to skip loan payments, low interest and fast cash loans, lower interest or credit limit increases on credit cards, and financial counseling.
