Visa Reports 5% Increase in Payments Volume in May YoY

SAN FRANCISCO—Visa is reporting that on a year-over-year basis, its payments volume in May was up 5%.

According to the new data, Visa credit grew 5% and debit grew 6%, while May card-not-present volume on a year-over-year basis was up 7%, card not present volume excluding travel was up 7% and card present volume was up 3%.

May payments volume year-over-year growth for key international markets was relatively consistent with April 2023 year-over-year growth, Visa said.

According to Visa, May cross-border volume excluding intra-Europe transactions was 151% of 2019, with card not present volume excluding travel at 175% of 2019. Total card present and card not present travel cross-border volume excluding intra-Europe transactions was 139% of 2019.

May travel cross-border volume into and from the Asia Pacific region and into the U.S. continued to improve relative to 2019 levels, Visa said.
