LYNCHBURG, Va.–Carrie Hunt, EVP and general counsel with NAFCU, has been named the new president and CEO of the Virginia Credit Union League.
Hunt will succeed Rick Pillow, who has announced plans to retire effective June 30. The VCUL represents 113 credit unions.
“The League board entered the selection process focused on the interests, welfare and success of our member credit unions,” said Patsy Stuard, chairman of the Virginia league and president/CEO of Fort Lee Federal Credit Union. “The search framework and process brought us a number of highly qualified candidates, but Carrie truly shined because she possesses an outstanding record of leadership, she is a respected and trusted advocate for credit unions, and she has a deep understanding of the opportunities and challenges facing credit unions. She is the right leader for the industry today and for the future we’re working toward.”
In her role at NAFCU, the league noted Hunt also acts as staff liaison to the federal regulatory agencies, including the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau and NCUA. A graduate of the University of Maryland at College Park and William and Mary School of Law, the bulk of her career has been spent in roles related to consumer finance and financial services law, credit union’s regulatory landscape, and lobbying lawmakers.
‘Fantastic Organization’
Before joining NAFCU, Hunt worked as the legal counsel to Massachusetts state Sen. Andrea Nuciforo, Jr., Senate Chairman of the Joint Committee on Banks and Banking. Most recently, Hunt worked as a law clerk at the U.S. Court of Appeals for Veterans Claims.
“I am thrilled and excited to have been given the opportunity by the board of the Virginia Credit Union League to lead such a fantastic organization,” said Hunt. “I look forward to representing Virginia’s credit unions and ensuring they have the right environment to thrive. Credit unions truly provide the best in financial services and I will engage with all stakeholders and policymakers to ensure their success now and into the future.”
Berger Reflects
NAFCU President and CEO Dan Berger commented on Hunt's career at the trade association.
“Carrie has been a rock not only to NAFCU but also to me. I was fortunate to work closely with her for 15 years and watched her advocate tirelessly on behalf of our members," said Berger. "Throughout her 17 years of service at NAFCU, Carrie always was energized and found innovative ways to approach issues to effectively inform policymakers on the credit union difference. We wish her much success in her new role as CEO.”
