FORT WAYNE, Ind.–Vera Bradley announced it has become the latest to have its payments processing breached.
The fashion accessories retailer said in a statement on its website that payment card transactions conducted between July 25 and Sept. 23 at some of its locations may be involved. The company has 112 stores and 44 factory outlets spread across 35 states.
Vera Bradley did not provide details on the number of payment cards that might be effected. It did say that cards used for purchases made on its website do not appear to have been breached.
The retailer said it has FireEye's Mandiant to investigate the breach as it seeks to shore up its POS systems. It is believed malware was involved, but Vera Bradley did not say at which point the malware was installed.
Vera Bradley said it was made aware of a potential breach in mid-September when it was contacted by the FBI. The company has provided a hotline for consumers to call as well as links to credit-monitoring providers.
