Velera Preparing For Milton’s Impact

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla.—With credit unions and their members still recovering from Hurricane Irene, Velera reported it is preparing for the arrival of Hurricane Milton, currently a Category 5 storm expected to make landfall Wednesday night.

Milton has exploded into a Category 5 storm with maximum winds of 180 mph, but is expected to weaken slightly as it approaches Florida.

In a note to member CUs, Velera said it is actively monitoring Hurricane Milton.

“We have enacted our business continuity plan in preparation for the storm’s potential impact on our credit unions in these areas,” Velera said.

Velera remains fully operational, the CUSO stated.

“Our credit unions can expect business as usual at this time as we leverage our hybrid/remote workforce alongside our business continuity measures. Additionally, our data centers are located remotely in other areas of the country, and no significant business impacts are expected,” Velera said in its note.

“Our teams remain fully committed to the credit union philosophy of people helping people, especially when unplanned circumstances impact our credit unions’ ability to sustain their normal operational models. We are standing ready to address the needs of members whose credit unions may have to close to ensure their employees’ safety,” Velera said.
