ST. JOSEPH, Mich.–United FCU has purchased a corporate building from Whirlpool here to become its new headquarters.
The sales price on the 80,000-square-foot building on Hilltop Road was not disclosed. In a statement, the credit union said the space will be used “to support the credit union’s long-term corporate growth plans.”
The site will not function as a branch, although it will have an ATM.
“We are excited about what this new headquarters will mean for the future of the credit union,” said CEO Terry O’Rourke in a statement. “We will be able to bring more teams together in one space and have the room to attract new talent and create a first-class working environment for our outstanding employees.”
According to United FCU, design and construction work on the building will begin this summer and last about a year. Renovations will include layout changes and parking lot and outdoor space updates, and employee committees have been created to provide input on design and amenities, the credit union said.
Other Offices to Be Retained
United FCU said it will also retain its corporate offices in St. Joseph and Niles, Mich.
According to the credit union, the $2.8-billion United FCU and Whirlpool Corporation worked with the Benton Harbor, Mich.-based economic development agency Cornerstone Alliance to establish a special commercial rehabilitation district for the property to “return it to a productive employment center.”
United FCU also operates in Arkansas, Indiana, Nevada, North Carolina and Ohio.
