HENDERSON, Nev.–Some of what America had to face in 2020 wasn’t so pretty, according to one credit union CEO.
“I think 2020 made us face some of the ugly truths in this country,” said Alex Casillas, president/CEO of My Credit Union in Redwood City, Calif., during a conversation with Susan Mitchell, CEO of Mitchell, Stankovic & Associates and founder of the Underground. “Whether it was systemic racism or equality in the workplace, I see change coming and it’s going to impact credit unions.”
During the discussion Casillas offered the following thoughts on turning ideas into action, including:
- Pay It Forward. “Empower your employees to do small acts of kindness.”
- Have the Hard Conversations. “Have a merger strategy. Discuss social issues and impact. Don’t let others take control away from you and your membership.”
The $30-million My Credit Union has more than 3,500 members.
