“I think 2020 made us face some of the ugly truths in this country,” said Alex Casillas, president/CEO of My Credit Union in Redwood City, Calif., during a conversation with Susan Mitchell, CEO of Mitchell, Stankovic & Associates and founder of the Underground. “Whether it was systemic racism or equality in the workplace, I see change coming and it’s going to impact credit unions.”

During the discussion Casillas offered the following thoughts on turning ideas into action, including:

  • Pay It Forward. “Empower your employees to do small acts of kindness.”
  • Have the Hard Conversations. “Have a merger strategy. Discuss social issues and impact. Don’t let others take control away from you and your membership.”

The $30-million My Credit Union has more than 3,500 members.
