TAMPA, Fla.–With support from USF Federal Credit Union as title sponsor, the University of South Florida Sarasota-Manatee campus will remember victims of Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attack and pay tribute to survivors, first responders, members of the military and their families during a remembrance event today to mark the 22nd anniversary of those attacks.
The event will be held at Patriot Plaza at the Sarasota National Cemetery.
In addition to the morning event that will get underway at 8:30am, the USF Sarasota-Manatee students, faculty, staff, and volunteers will commemorate the terrorist attack by planting 2,977 miniature United States flags throughout the campus courtyard. Each flag is in remembrance for each person who died in the attacks in New York City, Virginia, and Pennsylvania, the credit union said.
"Like many of you, I remember where I was and exactly my reaction and feelings when those planes struck the World Trade Center, the Pentagon and the field in Pennsylvania,” said Richard Sellwood, chief operating officer of USF Federal Credit Union. “With the observance of this ceremony, we take a moment from our busy lives and remember the 9-11 event, something we all have pledged to truly never forget.”
