BURNSVILLE, Minn.–The $1.04-billion US Federal Credit Union said it plans to introduce a new name in march: Firefly CU.
“Being open to the public has undeniably spurred our recent growth, but we were too often mistaken as a credit union that served very exclusive audiences," CEO Bill Raker said in a prepared statement.
US Federal was founded in 1925—the first in Minnesota—to serve postal and federal employees. It opened its FOM to the Twin Cities community in 2004. It currently has 72,258 members.
In the same statement, US Federal said it plans to add branches, improve its online and mobile banking options, and offer new products as soon as March.
“For over 90 years we’ve guided our members toward lifelong financial well-being. We couldn’t accomplish that mission without embracing change,” the credit union said in a statement on its website. “After all, our legacy as Minnesota’s first credit union has involved continual evolution to always serve our members better.”
The credit unions said “Firefly” is a name full of energy and optimism. “It reflects our spirit and connects us to our Midwestern roots. And though our name will change, we’ll continue to be your partner on the path to a bright financial future,” US Federal said.
