MANCHESTER, England—Great Britain’s finance minister, Jeremy Hunt, said the Bank of England would "probably need" to issue a digital currency, although the issue was still being discussed with the central bank.
Asked about the idea of a "Britcoin" digital pound, Reuters quoted Hunt as saying, "That's something that the governor of the Bank of England, myself--we are all thinking through."
"My instinct on that is that we will probably need to have a central bank digital currency," Hunt remarked during an event at the Conservative Party's annual conference, Reuters added.
