HONOLULU–The University of Hawai`i Federal Credit Union, which has been partnering with the United Way to offer support to thousands of local families that have been affected by the COVID-19 crisis, has now designed limited-run face masks to help mitigate the spread of the virus as well as raise funds for AUW.
UHFCU said the new face masks are stylish, washable, and reusable for “practicing healthy habits every day.”
“These aren’t just cotton masks, either. The masks use unique, stretchy material to hug the curves of your face for more effective filtration while also maximizing comfort – making it easy to wear for long periods,” the $710-million credit union said.
Each mask comes with two PM2.5 carbon activated filters for added protection.
UHFCU plans to donate the proceeds from every mask sold to Aloha United Way (AUW). The masks will be available to the public in early August, but the credit union is holding an exclusive pre-sale for its members now for $7.50 per mask or $20 for a bundle of three masks.
‘Overwhelmingly Positive’
According to UHFCU, the response from UHFCU members has been overwhelmingly positive. In the first two days of the presale, UHFCU has sold more than 750 masks and generated over $3,000 in donations to AUW.
“We’re honored to partner with AUW to help address our community’s needs as they relate to food insecurity, housing and shelter needs, rent and utilities, disaster response, medical needs, and other very worthy causes,” remarked UHFCU President and CEO Travis Bow. “Credit unions are about people helping people, and we’re proud to truly embody that ideology at a crucial time in Hawai`i’s history.”
