HILLIARD, Ohio–Two Ohio credit unions are merging.
The $159-million Credit Union of Ohio said it will merge in the $20-million First Choice Community CU in Niles, Ohio, along with its approximately 2,500 members.
Credit Union of Ohio has four locations in Central Ohio and was originally chartered to serve state employees in all 88 counties, but has since expanded its field of membership to include wider populations in Franklin, Fairfield, and Cuyahoga counties.
“Credit Union of Ohio serves state of Ohio employees in all corners of the state," said CEO Rich Capuano, Jr. "This challenges us to continually investigate additional partnership opportunities and search for ways to better serve these members and their communities."
First Choice Community Credit Union has one branch and six employees. Initially chartered in 1968 by a group of steel workers, it merged in other CUs in 2001, 2005 and 2013, respectively.
"The new members we are welcoming through the merger will have access to more convenient products and services, while our many members in the area will now have a physical branch to visit," Capuano said.
