Two New White Papers Released by Councils

MADISON, Wis.–Two new white papers have been published by two different CUNA Councils. '

The CUNA Marketing & Business Development Council has published a new white paper titled, “Team Chemistry: A Critical Factor for Success.”

“Chemistry among team members is critical to their success—whether those teams are in laboratories, on football fields, or at credit unions,” the Council said in a statement. “While the exact mix looks a little different in each unique setting, chemistry among team members can make or break the team as a whole.”

The white paper addresses aspects of establishing and maintaining effective team chemistry, including:

  • The leader’s role in creating and reinforcing chemistry among the team
  • Methods for handling conflict among talented people with personalities or approaches that can clash
  • Common characteristics of teams with effective chemistry
  • Effective team decision-making, and how longevity, skill sets, leadership styles, organizational fit, position fit, and other factors affect the mix
  • Methods for building harmony and avoiding dissonance with five generations in the modern workforce
  • Changes required of teams as they evolve over time (for example, in response to macro-environmental changes like transformational technology, or micro-environmental changes like growing to a new asset tier)

CUNA Finance Council Paper

Separately, the CUNA Finance Council has published a new white paper, “Emerging Risks.”

“A conversation about risk in the financial service arena is fraught; finance and accounting professionals are continually trying to get ahead of risk threats in hopes of reducing or negating damages,” the Council said. “Since risk comes in many forms, executives are often faced with a moving target, taking aim at emerging risks.”

The Finance Council said the white paper evaluates several categories of risk that finance and accounting professionals should be aware of in 2018 and beyond.

To better understand this overarching emerging risk issue, four leading credit union executives have shared respective approaches and experiences, responding to:

  • How do credit unions monitor and respond to various risks?
  • What resources and expertise are required?
  • How are regulatory organizations formalizing and implementing new risk management plans?

“The responses to these queries are informative; however, finance and accounting executives cannot manage these risks alone and are encouraged to develop a risk management strategy in partnership with all departments of the credit union,” the Council said.

CUNA Council members are eligible to receive complimentary copies of this paper, and hundreds of other white papers. The paper is available online in the white paper section of www.cunacouncils.org.
