ELIZABETHTON, Tenn.—Two credit unions have announced new naming rights deals.
Northeast Community Credit Union has bought the naming rights to Joe O'Brien Field here. The field is home to The Elizabethton Twins, a minor league baseball team in the Appalachian League.
Starting with the 2019 season, the Twins’ home stadium will be named Joe O’Brien Field at Northeast Community Credit Union Ballpark, Ballpark Digest reported.
The change comes after Boyd Sports assumed the management contract of the Elizabethton Twins in February of 2019.
‘Makes Perfect Sense’
“Our credit union continues to win national and local awards for our loan and account services and our dedication to community support, including National Credit Union of the Year, Reader’s Choice, and Certified Community Development Financial Institution,” said Northeast Community Credit Union President/CEO Teresa Arnold. “Pairing the winningest financial institution with the winningest team in the Appalachian League makes perfect sense.”
Arnold said NCCU has made a focus of helping students and adults reach their financial goals, and name recognition is a big part of that, Ballpark Digest noted.
“We’re always looking for opportunities to tell our story and show how handling money matters can be both easy and practical for everyone,” she said. “This sponsorship helps make that possible while promoting family fun and encouraging great summer memories for kids, teens and adults.”
Numerica Buys Naming Rights
Separately, in Kennewick, Wash., Numerica Credit Union has entered into an eight-year, $405,000 naming rights deal with the city for the naming rights for the Southridge Sports and Events Complex pavilion. The pavilion will be renamed “Numerica Pavilion.”
An additional $275,000 to pay for signs reflecting the new name pushes the value to $680,000, according to reports.
A new electronic sign will cost an estimated $235,000. Numerica will pay $85,000 per year, meaning the city will pay for the signs up front and recover the cost over time.
Once the city recovers the cost of the signs, it will invest the proceeds of the deal to maintain the complex, local media said.
Numerica Credit Union plans to build a lounge at the facility similar to the one it has at the Three Rivers Convention Center.
The electronic sign will be placed at Southridge near Highway 395 and will be large enough to be visible from passing vehicles. The “Numerica” name will be on a panel that can be removed if another sponsor takes over.
