Two More CUs Hit By Skimmers, Camera Devices at ATMs

MERIDIAN, Idaho—The wave of ATM skimming attacks across the country continues.

This time a skimming device was found at a branch of Pioneer Federal Credit Union here.

A skimmer was also recently found in the area at the Bank of Cascades.

Meridian Police say Pioneer members affected from the attack used the drive-thru ATM at the 850 E. Fairview Ave. location on Dec. 10, between 7:30 a.m. and 7:30 p.m., KBOI 2, reported.

Members found fraudulent charges on their accounts in Nevada, Arizona and California. Police were able to get photos from PFCU of two men who might be involved, the news station said.

As CUToday.info has reported, ATM skimming attacks continue to rise as crooks turn to other methods to steal card data as the U.S. migrates to EMV.

Meanwhile, in Decatur, Ill., an ATM withdrawal limit put in place by one CU has been lifted after discovering machines were compromised.

Decatur Earthmover Credit Union said the devices, which were placed by thieves Thanksgiving morning and removed on Nov. 26, captured data when the card was swiped while a camera captured PINs.
