Two Massachusetts CUs Announce Merger Plans

WALTHAM, Mass.–Two Massachusetts credit unions are merging. Members of Waltham Municipal Employees Credit Union have approved a merger with RTN Federal Credit Union, headquartered in Waltham. The merger is effective Feb. 1.

WMECU has approximately $8.5 million in assets and nearly 900 members. It was founded in 1949.

“This is an exciting opportunity to deepen our connection with the City of Waltham,” said RTN Treasurer and CEO Richard Wright. “We hope our new members will enjoy the ease of conducting business in our flagship branch right here in Waltham, with access to a wider offering of products and services.”

Those products and services include mortgage loans, financial planning, insurance products, debit and credit cards, as well as a large ATM network.

“We are pleased to offer members expanded products and services, along with more branch access, and greater convenience with the same individualized attention,” said Michael Davis, WMECU CEO and treasurer. “Staff and management are committed to a seamless transition for our members.”

The $900-million RTN FCU has more than 50,000 members.
