Two Maine Credit Unions Announce Plans to Merge

FORT KENT, Maine–Two Maine credit unions have announced merger plans.

The $152-million Acadia FCU here and the $50-million Eastern Maine Medical Center CU in Bangor said they plan to combine their operations once approval is granted by NCUA.

“We are very excited about this partnership with EMMC FCU to further our mission of service to the membership,” said David Desjardins, President/CEO of Acadia FCU, in a statement. “The shared vision of a stable, strong organization capable of servicing the members is something both credit union boards want to ensure going forward.”
Together, the credit unions will serve approximately 15,000 members with eight branches across northern and eastern Maine. All staff will be retained.

The credit unions said they plan to hold informational meetings for members, with the merger expected to be completed by early 2018.
