PHOENIX–Two credit unions have named new presidents and CEO.
In Phoenix, the $1.9-billion Harborstone Credit union has selected Geoff Bullock to serve as its next leader, succeeding Phil Jones, who is retiring after 15 years of leading the credit union.
Bullock currently serves as executive vice president and chief member experience officer of the $4.3-billion Royal Credit Union in Eau Claire, Wis.
He is expected to transition to his new role before the end of October 2022.

“Geoff is an inspirational and innovative leader,” said Ann Anderson, chair of Harborstone Credit Union’s board. “Based on our thorough and independently-led executive search process, we’re confident Geoff is the strongest fit to drive Harborstone into its next phase of growth and success.”
According to Harborstone, Bullock has a unique combination of strategic planning, enterprise-wide decision-making, product innovation and advocacy for the member and employee experiences. He was named Next Top Credit Union Executive in 2017, a CUNA Rockstar in 2019, and a CUES Emerge Mastermind in 2020, 2021 and 2022.
“It was clear throughout this process that Harborstone is a special place, and this is a once in a lifetime opportunity,” said Bullock. “Ann Anderson and the board exuded the credit union’s mission, and their knowledge and professionalism blew me away.”
‘Mission-Driven Leader’
According to the credit union, Bullock is a mission-driven leader and credit union enthusiast. He is currently working towards his Doctorate in Change Leadership at the University of Southern California and holds a Master of Business Administration in Finance from Concordia University and a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from North Park University.
Bullock has also completed CUES CEO Institute Certificates through Wharton, Cornell and the University of Virginia.
The search was handled by DDJ Myers, which recently became an ALM First company.
New CEO at Team One
Meanwhile, in Saginaw, Mich., the $759-million Team One Credit Union has named Derrick Barber as its new president/CEO. Barber will succeed Gerald Hutto, who will be retiring after serving as president/CEO for 12 years at Team One Credit Union.
“Under Derrick’s leadership, Team One CU will continue to innovate and provide the services our members will need to navigate the financial landscape for the future,” said Hutto. “I am very confident that Derrick will continue the culture this organization has had for over 85 years working together with our board and staff to constantly improve and refine our organization on our path for continued relevancy in the future marketplace.”

Added Chair Rebecca Sanchez, “On behalf of the Board of Directors, we are very confident that Derrick’s leadership and commitment to the CU philosophy will advance Team One’s vision and goals for the future. He will build upon the foundation established by the board, Gerald Hutto, and our entire staff to continue our growth both as a credit union and a leader in the CUSO environment. We wish Gerald only the best in his retirement after 28 years with Team One and 38 years in the industry.”
According to Team One, over a 19-year credit union career Barber has held key leadership positions in Michigan’s credit unions, with most of his career as a leader at the $1-billion Vibe Credit Union in Novi, Mich., where he began as an internal auditor before being promoted to COO, and then to SVP.
Leading Teams
The credit union said Barber is known for leading teams through complex organization and leadership transitions, such as a successful merger, while overseeing critical aspects of the credit union’s operations to provide excellent member experience.
“I am honored and humbled to be afforded the opportunity to lead Team One Credit Union into the future and continue building upon the incredible work the board of directors, Gerald Hutto and his team have performed over the past decades,” said Barber. “It is incredibly exciting to know I will be working with this strong, progressive organization that believes they have an important role to play in making the communities they serve stronger. I want to thank the Board of Directors and Gerald for their confidence in me to assume the role of president/CEO.”
Educational Background
Barber received his Bachelor of Arts in Accounting from Michigan State University and is a registered CPA. He is also an active community volunteer who has served organizations such as the Salvation Army, and the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network.
