Two Credit Union Leaders Pass Away

KENOSHA, Wis.–Georgine Lewis, the longtime CEO at Southern Lakes Credit Union, has died.  Ms. Lewis was 65.

Lewis had been with Southern Lakes for 30 years, the first decade as chief lending officer and then for the past 20 years as CEO. She had announced plans to retire in February of 2017.

John Morrissey, the credit union’s chairman, told the Kenosha News that Lewis’ death is a “significant loss” for the credit union.  “She was well known, well respected, a staunch supporter of the credit union movement and had a lot of knowledge. She believed in the credit union philosophy,” Morrissey told the Kenosha News.

Richard “Dick” Ackatz, vice president of administration for Southern Lakes, has been appointed interim CEO.

The $88-million CU has approximately 12,800 members.

Separately, Rod Calvao, who retired after 15 years of leading San Diego County Credit Union, has died. Mr. Calvao was 69. While at SDCCU Calvao oversaw growth to $4 billion in assets from $499 million. Mr. Calvao had worked in credit unions for four decades.
