KAHULUI, Maui–Two credit unions here have opened a new branch inside a Walmart in which they will share the retail space.
For Hawaiian Tel FCU, it is the sixth in-store location within a Walmart. But this time Valley Isle Community FCU is also occupying the same space, making it their first appearance in a retail location. Members of both CUs can use the branch.
“This type of partnership and co-locating is new in the islands and promotes the credit union values of cooperation and people helping people,” said President Norman Okimoto.
The location will boast both credit unions’ names and will give the residents of Maui the opportunity for credit union membership from both Maui and Oahu’s largest community federal credit unions, the credit unions said in a statement.
“We are excited for the opportunity to partner with HTFCU whose financial diligence has been recognized nationally and for the opportunity the partnership will provide to better serve the residents of Maui,” said President Trevor Tokishi from VICFCU.
The $600-million Hawaiian Tel Federal Credit Union has 56,000 members. The $115-million Valley Isle Community FCU has 13,309 members.
