Two CUs Announce New Names, Branding (and a New HQ)

DULUTH, Minn. – Two credit unions have announced new names and branding.

Duluth Teachers Credit Union said it has changed its name to Harbor Pointe Credit Union. Founded in 1933 to serve educators in Duluth, the $109-million CU has expanded its FOM to cover a number of cities and three counties.

“Members’ response to the new name has been very positive," Brian Thompson, marketing/communications director for the credit union said in the statement. "By selecting this new name, we are making a big investment in our future and have provided a strong foundation for credit union growth for many generations to come.”

Harbor Pointe has 8,000 members.

Separately, Kennewick, Wash.-based Tri-Cities Community Credit Union has said it is changing its name to Tri-CU Credit Union, which it says is pronounced “Try-Cue.” The new name comes at the same time the $38-million credit union is breaking ground on a new $3-million headquarters building.

CEO Doug Wadsworth told the Tri-City Herald that the “Tri-CU: name may not roll of the tongue at first, but added, “We’re confident it will grow on you!” he said.

The new branding follows a survey of the credit union’s 5,600 members that showed they love the friendliness of the institution but thought the old name was too much, the Tri-City Herald reported.

The credit union, which has approximately 5,600 members, was founded in 1969 as IBEW #122 Federal Credit Union and expanded to a community charter for residents in Benton and Franklin counties in 1985.
