SAN DIEGO —A two-alarm fire at a credit union here caused what is estimated to be more than $1 million in damage, according to the San Diego Fire-Rescue Department.
The fire was reported just after 9:15 p.m. at the California Coast Credit Union branch on Ruffin Road, according to a Fire-Rescue’s online incident fact sheet as cited by the San Diego Union Tribune.
Fire crews were on scene in less than 10 minutes, according to the fact sheet, the Union Tribute stated, with about 75 firefighters responding to the incident, and were still trying to douse the flames as of 11 p.m.
Battalion Chief Robert Rezende told OnScene TV that the call initially came in as a ringing alarm. The first crew on the scene rolled up to find smoke and flames coming through the roof, the Union Tribune reported.
The incident was upgraded to a first-alarm fire, then quickly to a second-alarm fire, he said.
Arson Team Investigating
Rezende told the news outlet there were no reports of injury. “The good thing is that it happened at night without anybody inside,” he said.
Rezende did not know what caused the fire, and said the Metro Arson Strike Team — comprised of police and fire investigators — were sent to the scene.
The $3.4-billion California Coast CU has approximately 193,000 members.
