GREENVILLE, S.C.–Two South Carolina CUs have announced plans to merge. The $26-million Turbine FCU here said it will merge into the $1.1-billion Self-Help Credit Union in Durham, N.C.
Members OK’d the combination, as have regulators.
Turbine FCU was chartered as Greenville Gas Turbine Employees Federal Credit Union in 1976 to provide General Electric (GE) employees in Greenville. In 2015, it changed its name and also expanded its FOM to include not just employees of GE in the Greenville area, but contractors, vendors and family of existing members.
“This partnership helps preserve wealth and build financial security for more working families,” said Self-Help President Randy Chambers. “We are honored to build on Turbine’s long legacy in Greenville.”
Turbine FCU had approximately 3,000 members.
