WASHINGTON — President Donald Trump on this week called for Federal Reserve Governor Lisa Cook to resign, posting on Truth Social that she “must resign, now!!!,” NBC News reported.
Trump’s remarks followed allegations from Federal Housing Finance Agency Director William Pulte, a vocal Fed critic, who claimed in a letter to Attorney General Pam Bondi that Cook falsified bank documents and property records to secure more favorable loan terms. Pulte described the letter as a “criminal referral” and urged the Justice Department to investigate. He further alleged Cook misrepresented her residence status on properties in Ann Arbor, Michigan, and Atlanta, Georgia, NBC News said.
In response to Pulte's allegations, Cook said in a statement: “I learned from the media that FHFA Director William Pulte posted on social media that he was making a criminal referral based on a mortgage application from four years ago, before I joined the Federal Reserve. I have no intention of being bullied to step down from my position because of some questions raised in a tweet."
Cook added that she intends "to take any questions about my financial history seriously as a member of the Federal Reserve and so I am gathering the accurate information to answer any legitimate questions and provide the facts,” NBC News added.
