ISHPEMING, Mich.—The $144-million TruNorth FCU is celebrating having loaned $1 billion to its members since it opened for business in 1949.
"It's a huge milestone for our credit union. Obviously, we love to help our members and our local community, and a big part of that is the low rates we offer on our loans,” Shae Kangas, member advocate at TruNorth, told UpMatters.com.
The members who put the CU over $1 billion in loans since it opened were the Gronvalls, a husband and wife who took out their 97th loan with the CU. The CU awarded them with a $250 pre-paid Visa card, and cake and cookies were free to all members, UpMatters.com reported.
“We're really excited that it was a loyal member who received the prize for the billionth dollar lent,” said Kangas.
