MIRAMAR, Fla.–Tropical Financial Credit Union has again closed its branches in Miami-Dade County, which has become the epicenter of the COVID-19 outbreak in the state.
The move comes two months after Tropical Financial reopened its branch lobbies, following months of closures during the first wave of the virus.
"With the numbers rising in Miami-Dade County, we have decided to close our branch lobbies out of an abundance of caution for both our employees and customers,” President/CEO Richard Helber told the South Florida Business Journal.
Florida has nearly 316,000 confirmed virus cases, including 75,425 in Miami-Dade County, according to the Department of Health. The state reported 13,837 new cases and 156 fatalities on July 16, a single-day high. That brings the total statewide death toll to 4,802. Of those, 3,100 cases and 44 deaths were in Miami-Dade County.
Tropical Financial said its drive-thru and ATM services are still be available at Tropical Financial's Miami-Dade locations. Branch lobbies in Broward and Palm Beach counties in Florida remain open, but the credit union is encouraging customers to take advantage of mobile and online services to complete transactions, the Business Journal reported.
