Tower FCU Launches Fundraising Initiative Based on Debit Card Usage

LAUREL, Md.–Tower Federal Credit Union has launched a new philanthropic initiative, Pennies for Change, saying it plans to donate up to $250,000 in 2021 to the TowerCares Foundation in support of members of the military.

Through the new Pennies for Change program, Tower said it will donate one cent to the TowerCares Foundation every time a Tower member uses their Tower debit card or credit card, both in-store and online.

“During our inaugural year, we fully expect to meet our $250,000 donation goal based on the millions of card transactions by Tower members,” said President and CEO Richard Stafford. “All those pennies will add up to make a big impact, and will go a long way towards helping our local military heroes and children in need.”

The TowerCares Foundation and the new initiative are aimed at helping active military, Department of Defense employees, veterans and children in need.

Over the past six years, the TowerCares Foundation has provided close to one million dollars in grants, donations and scholarships to 58 charitable organizations.

‘Better Quality of Life’

“From fighting Veteran homelessness to providing medical care for critically ill children to awarding scholarships for military spouses, the TowerCares Foundation has helped provide a better quality of life for thousands of individuals and families in our community,” Stafford added. “The new Pennies for Change program will help support the great work that the Foundation is doing, and I hope will give our members a sense of pride every time they use their Tower card.”

The $3.3 Tower FCU has more than 195,000 members worldwide.
