WASHINGTON—The top member of the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau’s enforcement team, Anthony Alexis, is leaving the CFPB after more than two years as assistant director of enforcement, according to ACA International.
Alexis’ departure could slow the agency’s policing of financial institutions, reports suggest.
Alexis was named the CFPB’s assistant director of enforcement in January 2015 after serving in the role on an interim basis. He also worked as the CFPB’s principal deputy and deputy assistant director for field litigation for the CFPB’s Office of Enforcement, ACA International noted.
Alexis was a partner at Mayer Brown LLP in Washington, and assistant United States attorney in the District of Columbia for 13 years before joining the Bureau.
CFPB spokesman David Mayorga confirmed Alexis’ departure from the CFPB, stated ACA International, citing an article in The National Law Journal, which ACA said also noted that the position for assistant enforcement director is posted on the CFPB’s public employment website.
