Theft From Deceased Member’s Account Is Among Charges Against Former CU Employee

BOSSIER CITY, La.- An employee of Barksdale FCU has been arrested for alleged theft from member accounts, including from one member who is deceased.

The sheriff’s office said that Kesha Kestler, 29, of Shreveport, La., who was in charge of dormant accounts, allegedly used her position to steal $49,101 from those accounts by issuing fraudulent checks to herself and wiring money into other accounts. The thefts were discovered when the heirs to the deceased member contacted the BFCU about their dormant account, according to the Caddo-Shreveport Financial Crimes Task Force.

Kestler was booked into Caddo Correctional Center on one count of theft with bond set at $25,000. 

Barksdale FCU said no members have incurred a loss.
