The (Police) Force Not With This Darth Vader

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — A man suspected of robbing a branch of State Employees Credit Union here was captured in part due to his Facebook profile.

The suspect used a long-barreled, bolt-action shotgun while committing the robbery in March. According to police, that same shotgun was seen in a Facebook profile photo posted by Thomas Gilbert, who used the name “JoJo Blood Black Money” on his Facebook account.

The Mecklenburg, N.C. police said that two days prior to the SECU robbery, investigators discovered a message between Gilbert, who was under electronic monitoring with the police, and a friend, in which Gilbert said,  “Well, Monday this leg (expletive) coming off my leg so me in my (expletive) going down to South Carolina to get this money.”

Gilbert was arrested hours after the robbery during a traffic stop, driving a stolen SUV, police said, adding that Gilbert had cut off the monitor but officers didn’t know about the robbery.

Later, in recorded jail cell calls, Gilbert said to another person, “Come get me now before they find out what really happened. They going to hit with the feds then, they ain't hit me with the feds yet, so come on.”
