OMAHA, Neb.- Members who are part of one of the most unique fields of membership among credit unions in the U.S. met here—for a reunion and softball game.
The annual event brought together members of the Williams family from Illinois, Arizona, Oregon, Colorado, Kansas. The reunion lasts four days every two years, according to 3NewsNow.com, and this year attracted 170 people. All of the attendees are also members of Our Family Social Credit Union, which has just $575,000 in assets.
The credit union was founded in 1950 by offspring of Lucy and Manley Williams, who had 11 children. For a $5 deposit, plus a 25-cent handling fee, a person can become a member of the credit union — if that person is or was a direct descendant of Manley and Lucy Williams, or if that person were married to one.
Before the softball and picnic, and other family reunion activities, the family reunion always kicks off with a credit union shareholders meeting, 3NewsNow.com reported.
The CU has no issues with delinquencies, reporting no one has missed a payment in two years. It has 530 members.
