Teams Announced For CU-Sponsored College Bowl Game Played In CU-Sponsored Stadium

SAN DIEGO–The college football teams that will be playing in the San Diego County Credit Union Holiday Bowl have been selected.

The Washington State Cougars of the Pac 12 will play the Michigan State Spartans of the Big 10 on Dec. 28 at 6 p.m. It is the first time the teams, both of which are ranked in the top 25, will have played each other in 40 years.

This is the first year San Diego County Credit Union has sponsored the Holiday Bowl. For many years it was the name sponsor of the Poinsettia Bowl, which is played in the same stadium and which is also now named after the credit union, as well.

As CUToday.info reported, the form Qualcomm Stadium is now known as “SDCCU Stadium” after the credit union paid a one-time fee for naming rights to the facility through the end of 2018.

The fate of the stadium remains up in the air after the NFL’s San Diego Chargers moved north to Los Angeles.
