Talk About Takeaways: All CUs Take Home A Scholarship From Empower U Meeting

NASHVILLE, Tenn.–To mark its 10th anniversary, CU Student Choice presented each credit union in attendance at its Empower U meeting here with a $1,000 scholarship to be awarded to a student once they return home.

Scott Patterson announces scholarships for CUs in attendance at Empower U meeting in Nashville.

The scholarships were announced by President/CEO Scott Patterson, who said that all that is required of the credit unions is to capture the “story” of the winner of each scholarship, along with their photo, and then provide those to CU Student Choice. The CUSO, which provides student loan solutions to credit union members, uses the stories of numerous students who have benefitted from its products on its website. The scholarship must be awarded to a student by May 31 of 2019.

Patterson also made several other announcements during the meeting, including:

  • CU Student Choice has developed a new tagline: Empower the next generation of members for lifetime success.
  • Kemba Financial Credit Union is the winner of its Student Choice Honor Roll Award, which is named in honor of Chip Filson.
  • CU Student Choice is in the process of creating a new foundation to be called the CI Empowerment Foundation. It’s objective, said Patterson, is to “empower and  energize America’s credit union movement by lowering the financial burden of higher education for credit union employees and members.”
