PORTLAND, Ore.—Nine credit unions here will be hosting a “Cooperative Career Fair” today aimed at recruiting new hires and providing employment opportunities to hundreds of job seekers.
“While banks across the nation lay off thousands of employees under the saccharine pretense of ‘talent optimization,’ Unitus Community Credit Union offers a distinctly different kind of ‘talent optimization,’” said Unitus Community CU, one of the eight participants in the Fair, in a statement.
The job fair is taking place at Unitus Plaza downtown from 11 a.m. – 2 p.m. PT with the theme “Take this job and LOVE IT!” It will include catered food from Busters BBQ, and will be deejayed live by local radio personality Jake Byron. Attendees will be invited to fill out a passport which they will receive upon entry, for the chance to win one of 10 prized gift baskets, the credit unions said.
‘Spirit of CU Movement’
“This event extends the spirit of the credit union movement, bringing people together to help each other build a rewarding, impactful career in financial services,” said Gayle Evans, SVP and chief human resources officer at Unitus. UCCU said Evans was instrumental in organizing the event, as well as Jenny Sherman, human resources manager and Steve Stapp, president and CEO of Unitus.
The other participating credit unions include Advantis Credit Union, Clackamas Federal Credit Union, First Tech Credit Union, iQ Credit Union, Point West Credit Union, Rivermark Credit Union, SELCO Community Credit Union, and Trailhead Credit Union.
Unitus CCU said it has also invited representatives from the Northwest Credit Union Association (NWCUA), Young Credit Union Professionals (YCUP), BankWork$, and Worksource Portland Metro to set up tables on the Plaza.
All nine credit unions said they will speak with job seekers about a range of positions, including backend roles in areas such as lending, credit services, member services, and administration, as well as frontline opportunities for those interested in branch and retail positions.
